Sprinkler inspection, testing and repair in Riverside County · (213) 568-0188 · socal@1profire.com

Sprinkler tags expire. The five-year certification does too. If your annual inspection is overdue, a fire inspector flagged your system, or you just bought a building and can't find its last report, we can schedule the NFPA 25 inspection and testing and quote any repairs it turns up. 1 Pro Fire lists Riverside County as a service area, from the unincorporated county to its cities.

What's due on your system this year

NFPA 25 sets the calendar. Some checks happen every quarter. Others come with the annual inspection and test. Every five years the system also gets an internal pipe assessment, and its gauges are replaced or tested. California adds a rule of its own: Title 19 requires a five-year service and certification by a contractor licensed by the State Fire Marshal. Check both dates.

On an annual visit, a technician usually walks each riser and valve, confirms the control valves are open, reads the gauges, looks over the heads for paint, corrosion, damage or dust buildup, and runs the flow and alarm tests the standard calls for. Something failed? We'll tell you what it is and what fixing it involves.

Unincorporated, contract city or own fire department?

Start with your address. The Riverside County Fire Department, working with CAL FIRE, serves unincorporated Riverside County and 20 partners: 19 cities plus the Rubidoux community services district. Its Office of the County Fire Marshal handles plan review and construction inspection for unincorporated areas and contract cities. It also inspects state-regulated occupancies.

Being a contract city doesn't decide it, though. Banning, Beaumont, Indio, Lake Elsinore, Menifee, Moreno Valley, Temecula and Wildomar have their own fire marshal offices. Coachella gets fire suppression from County Fire, but its City Fire Marshal Office runs prevention, plan review and inspections, and permits there go through the county's RivCoPlus portal.

Then there are the cities with their own fire protection: Blythe, Calimesa, Canyon Lake, Cathedral City, Corona, Hemet, Murrieta, Palm Springs and Riverside. Idyllwild has its own fire protection district. In those places, ask the local fire department which office reviews sprinkler work. Changing a tenant space or a ceiling layout? Check with that office before the work starts, and ask which California Fire Code edition it enforces today.

Heads that came with the building

Sprinkler heads don't last forever. NFPA 25 says heads in service for 50 years must be replaced or sample-tested. Not sure how old yours are? The manufacture year is usually marked on the head, and a technician can read it during the inspection, so you'll know whether a replacement or a sample test belongs in next year's budget.

Who can sign off on the five-year

The California five-year certification has to come from a State Fire Marshal licensed contractor. Ours is Hedrick Fire Protection. Hedrick does our California work and holds C-16 (fire protection) and C-10 (electrical) contractor licenses, and the State Fire Marshal licenses it under Title 19 for inspection, testing and maintenance of water-based systems and for portable extinguisher service.

Riverside County fire sprinkler questions

How often does a sprinkler system need service in California?

NFPA 25 calls for quarterly and annual inspections, plus a five-year internal pipe assessment and gauge work. Title 19 also requires a five-year service and certification by a State Fire Marshal licensed contractor.

Does Riverside County Fire inspect my building?

It depends. The county Office of the Fire Marshal covers unincorporated areas and contract cities, but several contract cities, Coachella among them, have their own fire marshal offices. Cities like Corona, Riverside and Palm Springs run their own fire departments, so ask them.

Our sprinkler heads are original. Do they need replacing?

Check the year. Heads in service for 50 years must be replaced or sample-tested under NFPA 25.

Who does your California sprinkler work?

Hedrick Fire Protection does. It holds C-16 and C-10 licenses and is State Fire Marshal licensed under Title 19 for water-based systems.
