From a trouble signal to a normal panel
Something on the panel is wrong. Maybe a trouble light won't clear, a detector keeps tripping with no smoke in the room, or the panel has lost its link to the monitoring company. Each of those means part of the system can't do its job today.
Our technician starts at the panel. Its event history usually points to one circuit, and the fault gets traced from there out to a single device or a run of field wiring. Sometimes it's one bad detector. Sometimes it's the wire. After the repair we test the part we fixed and the other devices on that circuit. The panel should read normal before we leave.
A repair is not the annual test
NFPA 72 calls for the whole system to be inspected and tested at least once a year, and some devices need it more often. If your last full test is overdue, ask about doing both on one visit through our fire alarm testing and inspection service in Orange County.
When the system has been off for a long time
In Rancho Santa Margarita, in south Orange County, we brought back a fire alarm that had sat dormant for two years (see the Rancho Santa Margarita fire alarm reactivation case study). A reset won't do it. Backup batteries, detectors, horns and strobes, and the monitoring connection all get checked before a system like that goes back in service, and any part that fails gets repaired or replaced.
Your city decides which fire agency you answer to
Orange County has no single fire department. The Orange County Fire Authority, a Joint Powers Authority, serves 23 cities plus all unincorporated areas. In those places its Community Risk Reduction department coordinates annual life safety inspections of existing commercial, industrial, educational and multi-family buildings, so an open alarm fault can turn up on that visit.
Other cities run their own departments. Anaheim, Brea, Costa Mesa, Fullerton, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Orange and Placentia are among them; Garden Grove and Santa Ana have moved to OCFA. Not sure which one covers you? Ask your city before any work that goes past a like-for-like device swap, and confirm the code edition and local amendments with its fire marshal.
One company for the wire and the device
Plenty of alarm faults sit where electrical work meets fire protection: a shorted field wire, a ground fault, a power supply that has quit. California work for 1 Pro Fire is done by Hedrick Fire Protection, which holds C-10 electrical and C-16 fire protection contractor licenses. The same company handles both.

Repair questions, answered
Is a repair the same as my annual fire alarm test?
No. A repair fixes and retests what failed. The yearly full-system test under NFPA 72 is a separate job.
Does a fire alarm repair need a permit?
Swapping a failed device for a matching one often doesn't. A new panel or a change to the system may need one, so check with your city's fire agency; in Anaheim, fire construction permits and plan review go through Anaheim Fire & Rescue's GoPost online portal.
Why does the trouble light come back after I silence it?
Silencing stops the sound. It doesn't clear the fault. The light returns until the cause is repaired.
